Overview

We undertook a significant evaluation of AAWEAR’s impact within its four Alberta chapters, who all strive to advocate for the rights and dignity of people who use drugs.

Objectives

  • Assess the impact of AAWEAR’s initiatives on the community of people who use drugs.
  • Identify strengths and areas for improvement within AAWEAR’s programs and approaches.
  • Provide actionable insights to enhance AAWEAR’s effectiveness in championing the rights of the community.

Approach | Strategies

We employed a mixed-method approach, gathering perspectives from members, participants, and community partners. This included:

  • Coordination of data collection.
  • Conducting comprehensive analysis.
  • Providing guidance for decision-making.
  • Training peer data collectors.
  • Sharing findings through various channels including web content, staff presentations, and participation in AAWEAR’s annual HRS conference.

Outcomes | Results

Our assessment revealed valuable insights, including demographic trends, increasing homelessness rates, and the effectiveness of harm reduction initiatives. It identified AAWEAR’s strengths in peer-centered approaches and knowledge mobilization.
