An exploration of COVID-19 vaccination models for newcomer refugees and immigrants in Calgary, Canada

In this Calgary area study Habitus and first-language speakers interviewed 61 participants to examine newcomer immigrants and refugee specific COVID-19 vaccination approaches during 2021-2022. Specialized vaccination models relied on partnerships between healthcare services and community organizations to provide culturally responsive services, first-language information, and low-barrier access addressing transportation, language, and hesitancy barriers. Findings highlight the need for flexible funding, culturally responsive strategies within health services, and diverse community partnerships to meet newcomer vaccination needs.
