Research

Specialized research services in culturally appropriate and inclusive ways, respectful of diverse perspectives.

At Habitus, evidence informs everything we do.

We provide specialized research on your behalf, using a variety of qualitative and quantitative methods.  One of our unique strengths lies in conducting culturally appropriate research that is inclusive and respectful of diverse perspectives. We prioritize creating a safe and supportive environment for participants to share their experiences, and ensuring that their voices are heard and reflected in our findings and recommendations.

Our

PROCESS - STEPS

01

Discovery and Review

Through literature (grey and academic) and conversation, we get to know more about the gap, question, or problem you have identified, with a focus on actionable opportunities for change.
02

Data Collection and Engagement

Using well-thought out methods, we engage thoughtfully with communities and individuals to gather input. We adapt our research approach to ensure cultural safety and culturally responsive data gathering, including the integration of The First Nations Principles of OCAP®. Our team are experts in qualitative and quantitative research skills; interviewing and focus group facilitation, highly participatory methods such as journey mapping, outcomes harvesting, peer research, and ethnography, and survey/questionnaire design.
03

Analysis and Data Visualization

With interdisciplinary expertise, we conduct quantitative and qualitative data analysis and knowledge mobilization using visual tools such as dashboards, graphs, tables, and infographics. We take a highly collaborative approach to analysis including co-analysis with clients, and facilitate community input through intentional engagement.
04

Knowledge Mobilization

We believe in mobilizing what we have learned from our research through targeted reports with key audiences in mind and visual presentations for staff, participants, community, or other stakeholders.

TESTIMONIALS

In 2018 to 2020, SHARP hired Habitus to coordinate a community-based study on Aging in the 2SLGBTQ+ Community with other partners including Mount Royal University, Centre for Sexuality, Calgary Rainbow Elders, and more.  We were extremely pleased with the results which included the publishing of a great resource for service providers, community leaders (locally and nationally), and other researchers conducting similar studies.
