Research highlights a need for inclusive and tailored housing options for LGBT+ seniors in Canada. With projections showing significant growth in the senior population, including an estimated LGBT+ group of up to 780,000 Canadians, many of whom faced historic discrimination, there is concern about ongoing stigma and limited social networks. A survey of LGBT+ seniors in Calgary revealed a preference for inclusive housing rather than exclusive LGBT+ communities, with a priority on social activities, respect for relationships, and partner accommodation. Addressing these needs requires acknowledging the diversity within the LGBT+ senior community, maintaining open communication, and involving LGBT+ seniors in decision-making processes to ensure that their housing preferences and safety concerns are met.
